Cable-SHiFT was originally developed by Brandwood Cars as an alternative to rod type, "torque tube" shifters and mechanisms for use on VW and Porsche single rod transaxles.

Special projects allowed developments on Audi, ZF, Subaru, and GT transaxles as well as transverse 5 and 6 speed front wheel drive transaxles when used in the rear or "mid engine" configuration projects. One particular project required shifting 2 transverse transaxles simultaniously.

First applied to the off road and sand rail market, Cable-SHiFT has solved many shift linkage problems in the kit car and competiton market.
